Jennifer's Body

If it weren't for Megan Fox being drop dead gorgeous, I may have just taken an hour and a half nap and actually used that time wisely.

The Players: Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, & Adam Brody

The Director: Karyn Kusama

"Jennifer's Body" is now available on DVD

The Gist:

Best friends Jennifer (Fox) and Needy (Seyfried) go to see a rock band at a local bar.  Turns out this rock band is into some demonic occult type stuff and they were just there looking for a virgin to sacrifice to Satan in order to achieve riches and fame.  After they set the bar on fire, they kidnap Jennifer, whom they mistake for being a virgin (still not quite sure how) and take her into the woods for their satanic sacrifice ritual.  Turns out though, if you sacrifice a non-virgin that person will become a succubus and feed on human flesh to keep their beauty or something like that, which is what happens to Jennifer, and now her best friend Needy must put an end to her evil killing spree.

 What's the Deal:

Well, to be upfront, the deal is that this movie sucks.  It is quite honestly a showcase to just flaunt Megan Fox's hotness, which while being much appreciated, does not a good movie make.  This film got a lot of attention for two reasons: The first being the aforementioned Megan Fox and the second being that it was written by Diablo Cody who won an Oscar for writing "Juno."  All I have to say about that is that it's a good thing that she won an Oscar already because if she keeps writing junk like this she's more likely to win a Razzie Award (thats the one for the worst movies of the year).

Jennifer's Body 1

"If you grit your teeth you're automatically scary" - A break down of Megan Fox's acting theory

I could talk about the acting but there's not much to say.  Honestly, Megan Fox seems to have a glimmer of acting ability shine through when she's being readied to be sacrificed and she's begging for her life. Past that though, she basically just plays the stuck up, pretty high school girl, who's too hot for everyone, which quite frankly seems to be the way she is in real life.  Amanda Seyfried does a decent job, but nothing to really write home about.  She's basically just there to be the emotional anchor for the viewer because nothing Fox does makes you feel anything for her character, but Needy on the other hand is the victim/hero of the film and therefore couldn't just stand there and look pretty, but actually had to emote.  This would require some actual acting, which Seyfried is thankfully capable of.

Jennifer's Body 2

"Amanda, you have to smile and flirt with the bartender more if we're going to get free drinks."

The long and the short of it is that the movie is really dumb.  I just don't think it knew what it wanted to be.  It was trying to be scary but at the same time funny.  It was trying to be socially relevant, but frankly it was trying too hard.  It was trying to be entertaining, but the only entertainment I got was the fun of mocking this incredibly bad movie.

Jennifer's Body 3

Wow, Amanda looks like she was in a train wreck--- oh wait, she was! A train called "Jennifer's Body".

Buy It, Rent It, Skip It

Skip it, unless you want to see how hot Megan Fox is, which is almost worth the time, but not quite.
